چکیده

The physiotherapy exercises for gait rehabilitation are performed by the patient under physiotherapist assistance. During successive physiotherapy sessions the patient motor capabilities is evaluated by the physiotherapist without the usage of instruments and a set of reports are fill manually in order to store the rehabilitation progress based on observed facts. To perform an objective evaluation of patient progress during the physiotherapy sessions the work presents a set of sensing devices that are wearable such as smart inertial measurement unit (IMU) or are embedded in walking aids such as microwave Doppler RADAR array. The data delivered by the smart sensing units designed for gait rehabilitation purpose are wireless transmitted to an advanced processing server that provides synthetic information to the physiotherapist that use a mobile device to access the available services. Elements of IMU sensor network design and implementation as about smart walker and the experimental results for patient characterized by different gait limitation are included in the paper.

Video-Based System for Support of Robot-Enhanced Gait Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients

We present a dedicated video-based monitoring system for quantification of patient’s attention to visual feedback during robot assisted gait rehabilitation. Two different approaches for eye gaze and head pose tracking are tested and compared. Several metrics for assessment of patient’s attention are also presented. Experimental results with healthy volunteers demonstrate that unobtrusive video-...

Unobtrusive Assessment of Bipedal Balance Performance

Reduced postural stability are symptoms of many medical conditions. Depending on the conditions, there are training or medication strategies to ameliorate the balance of a subject. After medical treatment (surgery etc.) or in the context of an intervention/recovery strategy, these patients are often assessed in functional gait assessments (FGA). An expert, e.g. a Physio Therapist, can decide ba...

Comparison of Microsoft Kinect TM and Observational Gait Analysis in the Assessment of Gait Parameters of Apparently Healthy Adults

Objectives: The Microsoft KinectTM is reported to have compelling potentials for gait analysis in medicine; however, there are few data on its comparison with observational gait analysis (OGA). This study compared the Microsoft KinectTM and the OGA in the assessment of gait parameters of apparently healthy adults. Methods: Ninety-seven apparently healthy young male adults participated in this ...
